What is an EV charging adapter?
An EV charging adapter lets you connect your electric vehicle to a charging station that uses a different connector type. For example, if your car has a NACS port but the charger has a J1772 connector, you'd use a NACS-to-J1772 adapter.
Which adapter do I need?
It depends on two things: the connector type on your vehicle and the connector type on the charger you want to use. The most common combinations are:
- NACS vehicle + J1772 charger → NACS to J1772 adapter
- J1772 vehicle + NACS charger → J1772 to NACS adapter
Check your vehicle's charging port and the charger's connector before purchasing.

What is NACS?
NACS (North American Charging Standard) is the connector type used by Tesla vehicles and now adopted by most major automakers. It supports both AC (Level 2) and DC fast charging through a single compact port.
What is J1772?
J1772 is the standard AC charging connector used by most non-Tesla electric vehicles in North America. It's found on Level 1 and Level 2 chargers at homes, workplaces, and public charging stations.
What is CCS?
CCS (Combined Charging System) combines the J1772 AC connector with two additional DC pins for fast charging. It's used by many non-Tesla EVs for DC fast charging (Level 3).
